چکیده
This is one of a series of occasional articles highlighting conditions that may be more common than many doctors realise or may be missed at first presentation. The series advisers are Anthony Harnden, professor of primary care, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, and Richard Lehman, general practitioner, Banbury. To suggest a topic, please email us at [email protected] A mother took her 8 year old son, who had been limping and complaining of occasional leg pain, to see their gen‐ eral practitioner. The boy was otherwise healthy. He walked with a limp, was afebrile, and had painful, reduced internal rotation and abduction of his right hip. Plain radiographs confirmed the diagnosis of Perthes’ disease, prompting paediatric orthopaedic referral, followed by an osteotomy.

Evolution in diagnosis and treatment of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease
Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is an idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head with variable complications and resultant deformity of the femoral head and osteoarthritis. Suggested risk factors are acetabular retroversion, obesity, latitude, hyperactivity, and coagulopathy. The most commonly applied classification is based on radiolucency in the lateral pillar of the femoral head, which i...
متن کاملClinical Outcome of Femoral Osteotomy in Patients with Legg-Calve´-Perthes Disease
Background: Legg-Calve´-Perthes disease is a juvenile idiopathic osteonecrosis in which the blood supply of femoral head is not sufficient and the bone dies provisionally. The aim of this study is to evaluate outcome of Femoral osteotomy in children with LCPD in our University Hospital. Methods: In a descriptive analytic study, between 2008 and 2013, patients with the diagnosis of Legg-Calv...
متن کاملPerthes' disease and the search for genetic associations: collagen mutations, Gaucher's disease and thrombophilia.
The role of heritable thrombophilic risk factors in the pathogenesis of the Perthes' disease is controversial. The clinical and radiological findings of Perthes' disease may be indistinguishable from those of Gaucher's disease, and the most common Jewish N370S Gaucher mutation is threefold greater in patients with Perthes' disease. Familial osteonecrosis of the femoral head is associated with v...
متن کاملIncidence of Perthes’ disease in children born between 1973 and 1993
Background and purpose - The incidence of Perthes' disease as reported in the literature varies widely between and within countries. The etiology of the disease is still unknown. Both environmental and genetic factors have been suggested to play a part in either causing the disease or increasing the susceptibility of an individual. We determined the incidence of Perthes' disease in Sweden and i...

متن کاملPerthes' disease and multiple epiphyseal dysplasia.
Five atypical cases were observed amongst ninety children with Perthes' disease, ten of whom had bilateral hip joint involvement. All five were boys, four being under 4 years of age. Four had bilateral hip joint disease, four presented with hip pain, three showing some degree of retardation of bone growth. In one case the hip disorder was familial, and in four there were bony abnormalities else...
